Okay, well the earth hasn't opened up and swallowed the UK as predicted by the doom merchants following Brexit. But, everyone with half a brain knows the worst is yet to come, so those out in the shires should be on full alert for uncharacteristic earth movements.

What has happen though is the pound has lost 19% of its value, the last time I checked. In fact on the day South Africa announced it was charging its finance minister with corruption, forcing the markets to have an uncontrollable wobble and the South African currency to drop like a stone in water, the pound out performed it at falling. So that was quiet an achievement.

But in real terms what does it mean and having just returned from a trip around France, I can tell you what it will mean to the average Brit. First of all you will not be able to look forward to cheap European breaks, they are now a thing of the past. Suddenly French wine is struggling to compete with the plonk Tesco's sell, so booze trips will also be a thing of the past. Its not just wine, a French loaf and a wedge of brie will from now on cost an arm and a leg. The oktoberfest in Munich will for Brits be a very dry affair, with groups clubbing together to buy beer to share. Even the bloody Spanish are charging more for a full English on the Costa's than the equivalent at Harrods.

But there is one ray of sunshine that has come out of all this. Right now, due to the weakening pound, London is the cheapest place in the world to buy a Louis Vuitton handbag. But of course that is only if you are a foreigner to London, and paying with your own currency.

So well done exiters you have done us all proud, making a French product the hottest thing in town for everyone else except the Brits, unless of course your name is Beckham.
