Waving At Old Grannies

What is it with all these motorcyclists waving at me, I don't know them, I will never see them again, so what is it all about? Well the answer is simple, motorcyclists are all part of this great big extended family thing, which is good. They all help each other out, which is good. When I have stopped in a small town looking lost, its not long before a biker comes and offered assistance, which is good. If I see a bike stopped on the side of the road, I slow down to make sure he or she is okay, which is good.
But the truth of the matter is, if I need help I will not get it from someone I waved at two hours ago, unless he or she has taken to stalking me. but a biker who is passing right then when I need it, which is good and exactly how it should be. So back to my question, why are they waving? They are risking serious injuries by taking a hand or foot off the bikes controls to signal a demi second of friendship to someone in all likelihood they will never see again, much less when they need assistance.
I have even had guys on scooters wave at me, what the hell is that about? Everyone in the biking world knows scooters are a form of low life, don't these riders know my bike's engine is about 8.5 times bigger than theres, doesn't size mean anything to them. If this carries on I'll end up waving at Tour d France winner Chris Froome out on one of his training runs. Actually I would probably wave at him, I might even stop, turn around and shake his hand, so that is a bad example, but you get my drift.
I really hope I don't end up waving to old grannies in those tiny electric wheel chair contraptions.
